Understanding Apprenticeship Programs in the Hospitality Industry

Defining Apprenticeship in Hospitality

Apprenticeship in the hospitality industry is a comprehensive talent nurturing strategy. It integrates practical, on-the-job training with theoretical classroom learning and mentorship, aiming to cultivate expertise in hospitality roles. Oftentimes, apprentices begin with minimal or no experience in their chosen hospitality career.

What Constitutes a Registered Apprenticeship?

A Registered Apprenticeship in the hospitality sector refers to a structured and well-documented program that has received official recognition from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). This acknowledgment by the DOL, which has been supervising apprenticeships in the U.S. for almost a century, ensures the program's credibility and quality.

Guidelines for Registered Apprenticeships:

The U.S. DOL's Registered Apprenticeships in hospitality are regulated under the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), specifically Title 29, Parts 29 and 30. Professionals involved in developing and managing apprenticeship programs in the hospitality industry are advised to familiarize themselves with these sections for compliance and best practices.
